Devcon .Net Code Camp 2019
March 23, 2019I had the opportunity to be part of this year's Devcon Code Camp for .Net, I've been wanting to participate in this kind of activity for a long time especially ones that Devcon conducts once a year.
I even submitted an application as an event lead for the event just so I could participate even as a support for the event but I didn't get any feedback regarding my application.
Few weeks have past and suddenly a friend of mine who was going to be the speaker for the event backed out due to some conflict of his schedule and asked me if I can replace him as the speaker, At first, I was hesitant as I can't think of anything valuable that I can really share especially since this time it is only for Professionals.
In the end, I settled for SignalR Core which was released last year and I also did a lightning talk on it last year during Philippines .Net User Group (PHINUG) monthly meetup together with integrating it in Angular application.
for this event, I decided to do plain MVC application to showcase how powerful and easy SignalR Core to use and integrate into any application without installing another dependency such as Jquery.
I presented two demo application Voting and Sketch Board which they will have to re-create to apply their knowledge in SignalR, while I was teaching them I noticed that majority of the attendees still not aware on the concept of creating a Loosely Coupled application and Dependency Injection, and I decided to include it in the training as well so they can have a lot of takeaways from the code camp aside from just building real-time application, but by doing so we had to cancel the mini-hackathon which the main purpose is for them to create a mini-application that uses the technology discussed during the code camp to see if they actually learned something, all of the participants agreed to cancel it as it is much important for them to learn the concept of Loosely coupled application and Dependency Injection and how they can apply it in their everyday job.
